Is PhotoTrainer for me?

Who are PhotoTrainer classes really for?

They’re for people who are ready to make better photographs and are tired of feeling that their camera is standing between them and the photograph.

Some are beginners. Some are not. What they have in common is that they’re motivated.

They don’t necessarily need more information. They need someone to help make sense of what they already know—and make it work on their camera.

That’s where I come in.

What if I already know quite a bit about photography?

Excellent. You will probably learn faster and connect a lot of dots.

We start from where you are. My job is to figure out what you already know, where the bumps are, and what is getting in the way of making the photographs you want to make.

There’s no prize for starting at the beginning.

What if I don't even know what I need to learn?

That’s okay. This is a common sentiment.

Chances are, you just don’t know where to start.

Often the problem isn’t that you don’t know enough. It’s that nobody has shown you the path your fingers take into your camera’s heart.

That’s something I can help with.

What if I've watched a ton of YouTube videos already?

Then you have a lot of information. That’s actually a good place to start.

The problem is that videos can’t watch you.

For 20 years I’ve been watching how people learn cameras so they can actually use them. I can see where you get stuck, what you’re trying to do, and where the connection isn’t quite happening.

That’s the difference between binge-watching and learning with PhotoTrainer.

Bring that hunger to me.

Is one day really enough to make a difference?

One day isn’t enough to master the art of photography.

Fortunately, that’s not what I’m trying to do.

In one day I can introduce you to your camera in a way that begins to foster a friendship between the two of you.

Then the two of you can practice the art together.

That’s the idea: understand the instrument, then use it.

What if my camera has become more complicated than photography?

I understand.

At first encounter, today’s camera can look like a mysterious machine with eyes, buttons, functions, icons and enough acronyms to make photography feel like engineering.

That’s why you’re in my class.

I’ll decode the camera for you. 3 easy pieces:

Photography is an Art.

Light is still light.

Understand the instrument, you can get back to the thing

that actually matters: Seeing.

And yes, there are videos on the internet to help you with all of this. There are also videos about videos about all of this.

Overthinking. Overwhelm. Over and over and over.

I can do this with you in one day.
