In-Person Photography classes in Mountain View, CA
Yes, the iPhone Made Photography the People’s Art! (Covid Helped)
Sleeping in your pocket is an extraordinary little camera, better than ever! Like you, it has a creative heart, waiting to be unlocked. In this class, I personally introduce you to your iPhone’s camera and teach you to use it the way a photographer wields a professional camera, deliberately, like a musical instrument for light.
Class Schedule (9 AM – 4 PM, with a 1-hour lunch break)
Morning Session:
• A deep dive into your iPhone’s camera functions.
• Learning the fundamentals of photography.
• Hands-on shooting session.
• Photo review and feedback.
Lunch Break
Afternoon Session:
• Advanced shooting techniques and creative exercises.
• More hands-on photo coaching.
• Exploring fun and practical editing features.
• Developing your photographic “flow.”
This is a fun, interactive group class with a mix of learning, shooting, and experimenting. You’ll discover that your iPhone holds more function than mystery—more tools for creativity than ever before!
Class Size is limited to 5 students per session, ensuring you receive personalized attention and ample opportunities to ask questions and refine your technique.
Note: While this is an iPhone photography class, I can also provide proper guidance for other smartphone cameras. Please let me know in advance what device you’ll be using.

I gifted my son who is recently graduated with a camera and a photography class with Tom Upton. My son totally enjoyed the class and learnt a lot. He said he found the class interesting and informative. It is worth every penny.
About Tom
Tom Upton is one of the Bay area’s top photographer trainers. He believes third-person bios are beyond lame. So I shitcanned my AI writing bots. 😬
I am committed to enabling students find their own visions through the lens. My from-the-hip teaching style is hands-on, nutty and laser focused on building confidence with today’s bonkers camera technology. I have read all the manuals so you do not have to. Whether you’re looking to dive into photography for the first time or advance your skills, my classes offer a fresh take on a time-worn and burnished craft –a supportive environment for growth you will not forget (like those exhausting online videos you never finish.)
